Our Priority Areas for Action

Nutrition is not a standalone agenda. Given its multifactorial nature, nutritional outcomes are a result of policy actions across various sectors such as health, development, agriculture, water, and sanitation. In turn, improved nutritional outcomes for the population – when achieved within the framework of sustainable development – can positively contribute to public health, local agri-food diversity, livelihood generation, women empowerment, and environmental sustainability.

With its dedicated National Nutrition Mission, India is committed to achieving the national and international targets of improving population-level nutritional outcomes, coupled with an integrated approach to address the social determinants of nutrition, which include health, sanitation, water security, age at marriage, and family planning.
