Anuvaad Solutions in partnership with Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Department, Govt of Uttar Pradesh, organized a “Policy Roundtable on the Programmatic Assessment of District Nutrition Committees” on 18th October 2023 in Lucknow. The objective of the roundtable was to disseminate the results from study on District Nutrition Committees (DNCs) undertaken by Anuvaad Solutions across the 18 divisions in Uttar Pradesh. The attendees of the workshop included officials from ICDS Directorate, District Program Officers, Development Partners including Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Uttar Pradesh Technical Support Unit (UPTSU), UNICEF and team from Anuvaad Solutions.
The keynote address for the roundtable was delivered by Ms. Anamika Singh, Secretary, Department of Women and Child, Government of Uttar Pradesh. This was followed by the context setting of the programmatic assessment of the District Nutrition Committees by Ms. Sarneet Kaur Broca, Director, ICDS, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Dr Ananya Awasthi, Founder & Director Anuvaad Solutions along with her team presented the study findings including overall effectiveness of DNCs, uptake and feedback on the DNC template, review of DNC minutes and action taken, roles of District Magistrates, Chief Development Officers, District Programme Officer, Development Partners and Chief Medical Officers in DNCs and key implications for strengthening data based ICDS monitoring. The roundtable concluded with the sharing of best practices on effective functioning of DNCs by the DPOs and a brainstorming session to identify action points for effective ICDS monitoring. Key findings from the study have led to release of a revised DNC template, standardization of formats for documenting meeting minutes and action taken report, training of District Program Officers on effective use of data and sensitization of DMs and Chief Development Officers (CDOs) regarding their respective mandate in DNCs. Moreover, a new template has been released for divisional level review of the ICDS program.
