Indian Nutrient Databank (INDB)

Welcome to the Indian Nutrient Databank (INDB)

This portal offers access to the INDB, an open-access database meticulously developed by our research team. The INDB is a pioneering resource, the first to provide comprehensive nutrient for common recipes from various regions of India.  It includes detailed nutritional data for 1,014 common recipes, with values presented per 100g and per serving size. Nutritional composition for recipe ingredients were referenced from:

    1. Longvah, T., Ananthan, R., Bhaskarachary, K. and Venkaiah, K. (2017). Indian Food Composition Tables 2017, National Institute of Nutrition, Indian Council of Medical Research, Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
    2. Gopalan C., Rama Sastri B.V., and Balasubramanian S.C., Revised and updated by Narasinga Rao, B. S., Deosthale, Y. G., & Pant, K.C. (2004). Nutritive Value of Indian Foods. Alignment with National Initiatives:

The INDB supports the Government of India’s Poshan agenda by promoting the nutritional profiling of food diversity consumed in India. It is a vital resource for researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders who can use this database to know the nutritional value of major cooked food recipes consumed in India, thereby informing interventions and policies aimed at improving nutrition.

    Publication:

The full research paper authored by the Anuvaad team, detailing the methodology for developing the INDB, has been published in Current Developments in Nutrition, the official Gold Open Access journal of the American Society for Nutrition.
